Volunteers are coming out on Saturday, September 29 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to transplant 2,500 native plants to help the New England Cottontails survive the quickly approaching winter. New England Cottontails live in dense, thicketed habitats that are not plentiful. We are helping them by building up their habitat at Libby Field in Scarborough, Maine. Volunteers will park at Uncle Don's Spurwink Country Kitchen, 150 Spurwink Rd, Scarborough, ME. Refuge staff and personnel will shuttle volunteers from the restaurant to Libby Field.
Volunteers should bring:
- appropriate footwear
- pants
- bugspray
- sunscreen
- water
- snacks/lunch
All tools needed for transplanting will be provided by the refuge.
We will also be planting on Saturday, September 22 and Friday, September 28 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We hope to see lots of volunteers there!
*Volunteers will receive a FREE one day National Parks pass as a thank you!
