Who We Are

Piscataquis Regional Food Center (PRFC) was established in 2017 as an outgrowth of work that began in 2013 through a Healthy Community Grant from Maine Health Access Foundation. Our mission is to end food insecurity in the Piscataquis County region of Maine and stimulate the growth of the area's agricultural economy by providing affordable infrastructure and services to hunger relief organizations and small farms.

What We Do

PRFC works with a number of community partners to ensure that people throughout Piscataquis and surrounding towns have access to food-related services and programs to help them live healthy lives. Our work includes helping low-income homebound seniors obtain free fresh vegetables each summer, increasing the number of free summer meal sites for kids, working with Mayo Regional Hospital to screen its patients for food insecurity, and helping food cupboards make healthier food options available to their patrons. PRFC is also collaborating with Good Shepherd Food Bank to model a regional re-distribution center that would allow GS to deliver more healthy foods throughout the state. All of PRFC's work is community-driven and done through collaboration with organizational and individual partners.
