The first day of camp is June 25th and there is still alot of work to be done.  The wet Spring weather had made it difficult to get everything prepared.  We have garden work, painting projects, basic yard work, cleaning the beach and preparing our swim area, basic cleaning and organization of supplies and more! 

Help keep our new facility clean by doing laundry, vacuuming, mopping, and taking out the trash. Cleaning shifts are typically any week night from either 6 pm -7 pm or 7 pm - 8 pm. Or, we can work with your schedule! Any help is good help! 

The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce maintains a website that is a hub for information on community events, business news, a local directory of its members and area information.  The Chamber also maintains a Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram page that it uses to engage the community.

The intern will work to optimize the website by editing existing pages and creating more dynamic and engaging material for its audience.  The intern will also work on the Chamber’s social media platforms to promote the chamber and its members and build a bigger audience.

The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce prepares a guide that highlights what Franklin County has to offer. The Guide includes advertisements, key area information, attractions for all seasons, area events and a business directory.  The intern will gather information and present it in an accurate, eye-catching, and easy-to-read fashion using Adobe Suite programs.

Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for working with a committee to research and gather all required information, make sure all information is updated and accurate and that new information in each category is included. The intern will assist with the design the Guide for publication and physical distribution and for the placement on the Chamber’s website.

Qualifications:
• Strong interpersonal and communication (verbal and writing) skills
• Organizational skills
• Familiarity with Adobe Suite programs
• Graphic design skills
• Research skills

Volunteers are needed Mondays through Fridays from the time school gets out until it starts up again in the fall. Volunteers are needed throughout Cumberland County. Locations include Portland, South Portland, Westbrook, Windham, Gray-New Gloucester, and the Lakes Region.

Qualifications:

Day of Caring is a mobilization of volunteers to celebrate the spirit of giving through service by providing a morning or afternoon of meaningful volunteer opportunities to individuals of the community. Volunteers will be assigned to a local organization where they tackle meaningful volunteer projects and can make a big difference in their local community. Locations and events vary year-to-year, so keep an eye out!

Opened in 2006, the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland ReStore is a discount retail outlet open to the public that sells donated new and gently used building materials, appliances and furniture at greatly reduced prices. All of the profits from ReStore are used to support Habitat for Humanity home building projects in the Greater Portland area. Just like our build sites, the ReStore uses volunteer hours to achieve its goals and we need your help! Ideal volunteer shifts are Wed-Saturday 8:45am-12:30 or 12:45-4:30pm once a week. CASHIERS and WAREHOUSE volunteers WANTED. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, pick up of donations; cleaning, testing, and displaying of product; inventory and pricing; and customer service and register sales. Desirable qualifications/skills include being professional, flexible, patient, organized, self-motivated, and friendly. Construction and retail experience is helpful but not at all necessary. If interest is in donation pickup, the ability to lift 50 lbs or more is necessary.

Position Summary: A Employee Campaign Manager (ECM) is someone who is an employee of a business or organization that runs a United Way Workplace Campaign. The ECM is the primary contact to United Way and helps to organize presentations to staff, help educate staff on the work United Way does, schedule necessary events, incentives, etc. to encourage other employees to participate in the workplace campaign.

Responsibilities: Be the liaison between the business/organization and United Way of the Tri-Valley Area and promote the United Way’s mission. Look for opportunities to make positive changes and increase workplace participation. In coordination with the United Way staff, develop an approach to the workplace campaign each year.

Volunteer at Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland's Scarborough build site!

Volunteer with us for a day, a week, or more... it's a rewarding experience! Every Habitat for Humanity home is built by volunteers. This is the backbone of our workforce. We welcome anyone over the age of 16 who wants to lend a helping hand. No skills required! There are trained professionals on every construction site to teach volunteers the skills they will need to know for each phase of the project.

Help out with our Junior Squash League Tournaments on Saturdays! We need refs for matches from 1 pm- 3 pm. Also, from 3 pm - 4 pm families have access to the courts where we need volunteers to teach squash.

Come in and spend time with our guest to help fill times when we don't have staff.. Volunteers are important to help run the shelter so we don't have to close when staff are not available.

Foster parents provide temporary sanctuary for dogs, who are often coming from shelters and other stressful environments. As a foster parent, you are providing these pups with a warm place to lay their hands and a chance to relax while they wait for their forever homes. Old Dogs New Digs ensures that all medical needs are met, and we assist with food and dog supplies as needed.

ODND is a fast growing all volunteer organization with a state wide mission to assist senior dogs in need. Safe Voices Seeks Volunteers to Help Staff its

24-Hour Domestic Violence Helpline

Safe Voices has a few seats open for our next Volunteer Helpline Training which starts on January 23rd!  

We are currently seeking local volunteers to help staff our 24-hour free and confidential helpline which covers callers from Franklin, Oxford, and Androscoggin Counties.

Volunteers work from their homes using their own phones, and generally cover the helpline for approximately 8-12 hours per month, based on their availability and the needs of our helpline coverage.

               Priority will be given to volunteers able to fill one or more of the following shifts:

Mondays: 8a-12p / 8p-12a / 12a-8a        Tuesdays: 4p-8p / 12a-8a

Thursdays: 4p-8p / 8p-12a / 12a-8a         Fridays: 4p-8p / 8p-12a

Saturdays: all shifts                                                 Sundays: 8a-12p / 12a-8a

If you are available to help volunteer during one or more of these times, we encourage you to consider signing up for our training. All shifts have backup support from a supervising shift lead. 

The helpline is usually the first contact a person makes with Safe Voices when they are looking for support and services around domestic violence. Helpline workers provide support and advocacy to survivors of domestic violence; assist in safety planning; and help to identify additional community resources as needed, with support from Safe Voices staff.

Interested volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, possess a landline or cell phone with good reception, should be sensitive to domestic violence situations, understand and be able to set clear boundaries, practice good self-care, be dependable, and have good listening and communication skills.

Attendance and participation in each training session is mandatory in order to complete the training and become a volunteer.  Volunteers are asked to make a minimum 6 month commitment to volunteering with Safe Voices upon completing the training.

Safe Voices is seeking a qualified and energetic individual for the Spring Semester 2017 to aid in the planning process of Spring Fundraisers, including but not limited to the annual 5k to End Domestic Violence held at Bates College June 3rd. The idea candidate would be availed thru at least June 5th.

In addition to assisting with the organization of fundraising events, we are looking for someone to assist with freshening up our marketing materials (flyers/brochures/tabling materials). 

The ideal candidate should be outgoing, flexible and able to work in a fast-paced environment with strong organizational skills and computer skills.  Must have experience with excel.  The position requires some general administrative work such as answering phones, filing, data entry, etc.

This is an UNPAID internship.

Requirements:             

-18 years of age or older

-Possess strong computer skills

-Must have good written, oral, and communication skills

-Must be highly organized with an attention to detail

-Will be willing to learn new things and take on new tasks

-Must have a commitment to Safe Voices mission and values

-Must be able to work as a member of a team

The Lunch Buddy program is a mentoring program for students who need extra time and attention from a caring adult. Mentors meet with a Mallett School student once a week for lunch and share recess time. They may go out on the playground, or stay inside and do activities (play games, read, draw, etc). The students look forward to and enjoy the one on one time with their “buddy”. In existence for over fifteen years, the program has involves many UMF students and community members who serve as Lunch Buddy mentors. Some buddies stay with their students for successive years, offering the student valuable time and consistency. Lunch Buddies typically takes place for one hour between 11:30-1:00 lunch/recess time block at either Mallett School, Cascade Brook, or Cape Cod Hill School.

Girl Scouts of Maine is looking for volunteers in all areas of Maine.

We are in need of Volunteers to help welcome & assist participants to our Saturday morning (&/or Thursday evening) Kids First Program!  The volunteer for this program arrives by 8:00 a.m. on scheduled Sat. mornings, (or by 4:45 p.m. On Thurs. evenings), greets & assists participants (approx. 25-35) with check-in. There is contact with clients before and after the program. You may leave after the first break, or stay until the end of the program.  If you stay, we ask for your help with cleanup.

Your friendliness and professionalism will leave a lasting impression on the people attending their first program at Kids First!  If interested, please contact us for full schedule of our programs.
