Driving van to Skowhegan on Tuesday mornings to drop off meals on wheels bags for deliveries in Somerset County.

We have a few board seats that we would like to fill.  We are in need of someone to help with program development, someone to take over the radon directors seat and someone to take over the early lung cancer screening directors seat.  

Did you know Good Shepherd Food Bank has two distribution center locations? In addition to our flagship location in Auburn, the Food Bank also has a location in Hampden. Volunteer opportunities at the Hampden Distribution Center consists primarily of packing food boxes for two programs, the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) and the Community Health & Hunger Program (CHHP).

The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) works to improve the health of low-income people at least 60 years of age by supplementing their diets with nutritious USDA commodity foods. The Community Health & Hunger Program (CHHP) provides healthcare partners with pre-packed emergency food bags for direct and immediate distribution to those who identify as food insecure.   We may also ask our volunteers to help with occasional/seasonal produce inspection.

Our Hampden location welcomes volunteers Monday-Thursday: 8am-4pm and Friday: 8am-12pm. Are you passionate about cooking and eager to make a positive impact? Here’s your chance to share your culinary talents with community members who need it the most. As a culinary instructor or class assistant, you will inspire and educate participants, helping them create healthy, budget-friendly meals at home through our community cooking classes - Cooking Matters.  We also need folks willing to help shop for ingredients that will be used in the class. Many options to fit your schedule.

No need to organize a curriculum or be a professional chef, just be willing to show up, lend a hand, and enjoy food with neighbors.

We are looking for volunteers that can help promote and recruit participants to our event.  We are also looking for volunteers to help post flyers around town and possible help on event day to set up and clean.

Boothbay Rides connects residents of the Boothbay region without transportation with volunteers ready to take them to their appointments or errands. Most rides are right in the region, but if you’re a frequent errands-runner to Damariscotta or Brunswick, volunteer with us and you get a buddy to make the drive with! Connect with your community, share stories, and even make a new friend! There’s no minimum time commitment, only pickup the rides you can!

How does it work? Those needing rides contact us with their appointment information, including approximate appointment length and accessibility accommodations, if any. We then send out an email to our pool of volunteer drivers to see who is available. Once a driver is found, we connect them with the rider to establish pickup details. Drivers are expected to use their own vehicles for this volunteer opportunity, but we can even help to cover the cost of gas! 

Volunteer Drivers are expected to hold a valid Driver's License and be up to date on their vehicle registration and inspection. Drivers must also have a minimum $300,000 liability auto insurance coverage. CRC will run a Maine State background check, and you are welcome to request a copy of the results.

We are in desperate need of someone with graphic design and file format skills to work on branding, as well as media for upcoming and annual programs. If you have a background in graphic design and some time to spare, we would really love to talk with you! 

BCHC is in need of a photographer to help get amazing pictures for use in social media and other promotions in the future. These pictures would include current pictures of the community at events held throughout the year, old buildings and structures, architectural wonders, scenic views, public institutions, etc. Photos should include primarily areas in Biddeford, but not restricted to one area, and also surrounding communities. 

If you have an eye for color, composition, and love to take pictures, you are who we want. College students, high school photography students, retired photographers or those who love to take pictures as a hobby are all welcome to contact us. 

If you have knowledge and experience in the use of Adobe and editing, that would be great! 

A Videographer would be a great asset to help with various events and programs throughout the year, specifically the BCHC Hall of Fame Ceremony, the La Kermesse Festival, the Cultural Cuisine and the Voices of Biddeford interviews as well as occasional programs and presentations throughout the year. 

If this is something you are seriously interested in, we could really use your skills!

Looking for someone energetic with a background in fundraising to assist our nonprofit oganization with fundraising events. Support will be provided via the board and volunteers. Prior experience and interest in fundraising is a big plus. If this is something you are interested in, please be sure to contact us via the website or email.  Fundraising is an integral part of our nonprofit organization and needed to support ongoing programs such as the Greater Biddeford-Saco Music Hall of Fame, BCHC Cultural Cuisine and more. Help is needed with solicitations, letter writing, campaigns, fundraising database management, annual raffle, and much more!

BCHC participates in several events throughout the year which showcase the Cultural Cuisines available in the community. These include participating in RiverJam, La Kermesse, Cookies Around the World during the Holiday Season and possibly WinterFest (in 2024) featuring Desserts from Around the World. 

If you have a passion for cooking, or would like to commit to helping, and/or cooking a cultural dish for these events in 2024, we really would love to have you join us. Help is needed to work and set up these events, as well as the cooking itself.

All costs for food supplies will be reimbursed for those participating in the cooking part of the events. If this is something that intrigues you, please be sure to let us know. We are always looking for a variety of cultural foods to offer for tasting. 

Looking for someone with knowledge of marketing/communications and various platforms to help with promotion of the organization and its programs. Knowledge of MailChimp, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Zoom, and Hootsuite is a plus.

Whether you are a college student with an interest in social media, or are a retired executive, it doesn't matter to us. What matters is that you have an interest and passion for helping BCHC to develop a sound marketing/communication plan, and that you have the ability to train others, willing to help with social media and news postings, etc, and can promote the organization by helping to market it and to grow it in a healthy and positive way. 

As Chair of the committee, tasks also include oversight of those doing marketing, advertising, social media and the website, to assure that scheduled posts are set up on social media, a newsletter gets done on a regular basis, there is oversight and/or writing of press releases,  and a budget is maintained for communications.

The Cedars is looking for some assistance during the weekend in the afternoon with our activity cart. The position is very flexible in regards to time. This would involve visiting some of our patients in the Samuel L. Cohen Rehab Center and delivering activity supplies such as books, games, puzzles and art materials. Training will be provided and experience working with seniors is preferred but not required.

Pet visits with residents add so much to the quality of life here at The Cedars. With regular visits, there are great health benefits, such as decreased blood pressure, increase in mood and a sense of overall wellbeing.

If you have a certified therapy animal that you would like to share with our community, we would be interested in connecting with you! Duties include 1:1 visits in resident rooms and common areas. 

Please make sure that your pet has an updated health record, including all required immunizations. A pet health certificate and an interview must be completed before beginning.

Help tell history's forgotten stories. We invite you to join the crewe!

MFS relies on volunteer docents to welcome visitors and to share the stories of the Popham Colony, the original Virginia, and of Maine's First Ship. We need guides who can work regular shifts and those who can fill in when needed. 

This is a fun way to interact with people from all over--from locals to international tourists.
No experience is necessary, just enthusiasm and interest.  Training will prepare you to enhance each visitor's experience.  Our visitor center has displays on the history of the Popham Colony and on the building of wooden ships, even a small museum shop. On volunteer workdays shipbuilders and riggers may be present as well.

Flexible schedules are created monthly.  Summer is our busy season with a need for docents lasting into the fall.  We will train new volunteers as necessary.  Volunteers under 18 are welcome when accompanied by an adult.

Volunteers seek financial and volunteer support to fund valuable programs in the community through United Way. Individuals work on a particular division (finance) and make thank you calls, cultivate new accounts, and most importantly, ask for an increase in corporate contributions and employee participation.  Sales experience is a plus!

This is an opportunity for an individual or small group to help us maintain the shelter. If you enjoy cleaning, have great attention to detail and want to give back to your community this opportunity is for you! The shelter is more than 100 years old, is a relatively large building with a lot of nooks and crannies, and is used heavily 24 hours each day. While our employees and guests perform daily maintenance chores, we all know that our facility is never as clean as it should be. Duties included in this position would be to choose a room/area within the shelter of appropriate size for your group and complete a thorough, deep clean. This would include sweeping, mopping, polishing and possibly waxing the floors, baseboards, walls, windows, furniture, woodwork, and fixtures - anything you think would be beneficial for our overnight guests!

The Museum has an ongoing need for docents to help us with educational program development and presentation.

We have several existing school and library programs geared for varying ages; we are also developing new STEAM (Science,Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) programs for various grade levels.

Our focus is on the history of animals and humans in a maritime context.  Our exhibits and the extensive research behind them all derive from various STEAM elements (i.e. underwater archaeology, ecology, discovery and civilization made possible by animal/human partnerships).

The Brewer Area Food Pantry distributes food to about 1,263 people in Brewer and Eddington.  Volunteers are needed to assist with distribution, sorting donated food, delivering food, picking up food donations and stocking shelves 8 a.m. to n1 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.

Partners for World Health (PWH) is a non profit organization in Portland, ME dedicated to reclaiming serviceable medical equipment and unused medical supplies and shipping to hospitals and health clinics in need around the world. PWH also helps to improve the local environment by redistributing items within New England. In addition, PWH coordinates global health volunteer opportunities to various parts of Africa and Asia.

PWH is seeking a volunteer driver for our 20 foot box truck to pick up medical supplies and equipment. As a driver, you'll be the friendly face representing our organization, picking up donated goods within our community, with opportunities to travel across New England. We pick up supplies and equipment from locations in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Connecticut as well as Maine. 

We are seeking someone with a clean driving record, a valid driver's license, and the ability to lift up to 50lbs. No CDL is required. DOT certification or willingness to obtain is a plus.

The ReStore is a discount retail outlet for new and gently used building materials, furniture, appliances, and other surplus items donated by individuals, contractors, and businesses. It is staffed mostly by volunteers and generates revenue to fuel the cost of home construction and critical repair and modification projects while providing low-cost materials for the community. The ReStore has also kept more than 4 million pounds of materials out of landfills!

We pick up donated items with our box truck, driven by a paid, part time driver. We are in need of helpers to go with the driver to retrieve donated items. While you must be able to lift 50 lbs., we're mindful of safety and all large items are lifted by two people.

This is a fun position, giving you a chance to see the midcoast region and be part of Habitat's important mission.

Ready to swing a hammer? Habitat volunteer teams weatherize existing homes to decrease energy costs and complete other improvements to make homes more affordable, safer, and healthier for families in need. These changes make it possible for our southern Midcoast neighbors to continue to live where they want to be, at home.

Time commitments vary; some volunteers dedicate one day each week and others spend just a few hours each month with the home repair team. These projects typically take place on a weekday.

You don't have to be a carpenter to participate, though it's best to bring basic building skills. Join the team today!

Join us to help increase access of fresh food at our local food pantries through our Downeast Gleaning Initiative.

Throughout the spring, summer and fall (May through October), we have regular and single day events to collect food that might otherwise go to waste. We harvest at local farms and community gardens, and deliver the food to pantries and communities in need, so that more residents can enjoy healthy fresh food. We welcome school and other groups.

Beginning in May we are looking for people to join us at area farms or community gardens.

On Monday mornings we are looking for able bodies to share in the fun at Washington Academy's East Machias food bank garden (4 Cutler Rd, East Machias, ME 04630).

On Tuesday mornings we are looking for able bodies to join us at our new Community Food Bank Garden (Downeast Restorative Harvest Project), on Broadway next to the Versant Power station, just a couple minutes up the road from Court Street in Machias. 

Visit local farms and community gardens, connect with others, learn how you can grow and harvest vegetables, all while you are helping your neighbors in need!

Job Summary:

Refuge Ambassadors play a crucial role in facilitating meaningful experiences for visitors and the surrounding community. Through their efforts, they promote awareness of important scientific and conservation work that contributes to the protection of wildlife on Maine’s coastal islands. Ambassadors also foster strong emotional connections to those species, which is vital for sustaining the long-term conservation efforts that are needed throughout the Refuge.

Time Commitment:

Volunteer Refuge Ambassadors are typically scheduled for one 3-hour shift per week. Seasonal demands allow for additional shifts from late spring through the summer. Please let us know if you cannot commit to a shift every week (or year-round), as we are occasionally able to work with non-standard schedules.

The Maine Coastal Islands Nation Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center is located at 9 Water Street, Rockland Maine (https://www.fws.gov/refuge/maine-coastal-islands-complex). A second office is located in Milbridge, Maine, but this office typically does not have public programs. The offices and resources for public events created by Friends of Maine Coast Islands (mainecoastislands.org) are located in the Rockland Visitor Center building, and the public spaces are primarily on the ground floor, and an art gallery on the second floor that can be accessed by stairs and elevator. The facility meets universal design (ADA) standards. This is the primary location for all volunteer activities, although there may be opportunities to work with the public in other locations for special events.

Senior Companions Needed in Cumberland and York Counties!

Senior Companions are volunteers, age 55 and older, who volunteer with housebound elders and isolated adults who need help to maintain their independence. Senior Companions may provide transportation to doctor’s appointments or other errands and provide companionship through visits and phone calls.

Qualified applicants, who volunteer at least 10 hours per week, receive a tax-free stipend, travel and meal reimbursements, and other benefits including monthly training. Facilitate weekly lunchtime conversation groups online! As a Language Lunch Host with Penobscot Language School you will set up Zoom meetings, welcome participants and initiate conversation(s). Educators take notice! Safety Specialist volunteers will help OP Safety and Compliance Officer build and deliver training for the Ogunquit Playhouse safety plans and evacuation plans.

Some specialists will train our visiting design and production crews, as well as our actors and other volunteers in safety plans for various buildings on and off our campus. Trainings will happen throughout the season when new show companies arrive.

Other safety specialists may assist in writing, finalizing approved training to be delivered by trainers. Other safety specialists could update our Safety Training database to ensure all volunteer and paid staff have received and are up to date on their training.

Safety trainings will include Emergency Evacuation training, Active Attacker training, and more. 

Safety Specialists will work together to ensure records are current for staff who have or have not had various trainings, and will follow-up with scheduling.

When children and teens who have experienced multiple losses rediscover themselves in a safe and peer-supported community, hope and resilience flourish.

Since 1997, the Center’s Intercultural Peer Support Program has collaborated with Portland Public Schools and others to serve children, teens, and their families, who have resettled locally from countries experiencing war, persecution, and natural disaster.

Above and beyond losses due to the death of loved ones, they also have experienced collective loss—a community-wide devastation that destroys a sense of place, belonging, safety, and group identity. The Intercultural Peer Support Program promotes healing and resilience in the face of complex traumatic stress and loss by increasing social, emotional, and coping skills; fostering a sense of belonging; and renewing hope. When children and teens experience the benefits of peer support, we see a relief of distress, improved sense of well-being, ability to enjoy rewarding friendships, and ability to complete tasks. These benefits contribute to school success.

YOU can make a difference in these children’s lives! It requires an open heart, completion of training, and a commitment of about 4 hours a week (groups meet weekday afternoons) from November through May. Help ignite the potential of kids in Winterport! We are seeking a Coordinator for our Leroy Smith Elementary School program, starting in the Fall of 2022 and running through the 2022-23 school year.

As a Site-Based Coordinator You Will:

-Oversee and supervise weekly match meetings to ensure match quality and child safety.  

-Volunteer 2 hours once a week during the school year (Oct-May), with school vacation weeks off.

-Arrive prior to program start time each week to set up and be ready to greet Bigs (high school or college students) and Littles (elementary school students)

-Ensure set up and clean up of meeting supplies and snacks, facilitate group match activities if appropriate, and support Bigs as they navigate their relationships with their Littles.

-Have regular weekly communication with BBBSMM staff to discuss program and site logistics, attendance, successes, issues and concerns.  Ongoing training opportunities are provided by BBBSMM staff.

You have a provided script we give you to ask the questions and write them down for each patient. This volunteer opportunity is a great way to interact with the patients and their families to check in on how they are doing.

Administrative volunteers promote hospice care by helping perform clerical assignments in an office setting. These assignments can include helping process mail outs, filing, data entry, answering phones, restocking supplies, making packets, plus many other tasks.

Gentiva Volunteer orientation is provided free of charge to help you learn the skills required to be an outstanding Office Volunteer. Volunteers are needed between the hours of 8am and 5pm, Monday through Friday.

School Around Us was founded in 1970 to embody the philosophy of holistic education — the insight that as learners we develop meaning, identity, and purpose through self discovery, relationships, connection to the environment, to our community, and to the spiritual dimension of life. For the last 50 years, SAU has pursued this vision as a small parent-run school for K - 8 students, guided by this mission and powered by the generosity and hard work of our parents, students, and teachers. Now, we are embracing an evolution in how we do this, out of a desire to re-vivify this deep-rooted educational vision in a way that meets today’s world of complex human, societal, technological and political forces. We’ve recently shifted away from our parent-run school model, hired a Director of Programs and have evolved to become a co-learning community that offers full-time, part-time and public programs to homeschooling families in Maine. As a part of this process, we are hoping to revamp our Board and recruit new members to support our first Director of Programs and aid in our continual evolution.
