We are looking for 2-3 volunteers to help out at our monthly distribution site in Dover-Foxcroft on the 2nd Thursday of each month from 12pm to 3pm.

This distribution site is located at the Piscataquis Regional Food Center (PRFC) on North Street in Dover-Foxcroft. Volunteers meet at noon to portion and package produce then help during the distribution which runs from 1:30 to 3 pm. Volunteers check names off of a roster and load materials into vehicles. The volunteer will need to be able to lift boxes weighing up to 35 pounds.

We are looking for volunteers for our Calais distribution site, the 1st Monday of each month from 10am-12:15pm.

The Calais distribution site operates at the Calais United Methodist Church. Volunteers arrive at 10am to meet the Good Shepherd truck. The distribution runs from 11am to 12pm, when volunteers help load CSFP boxes and pet food into vehicles and check names off a roster. The volunteer will need to be able to lift boxes weighing up to 35 pounds.

They distribute the boxes, produce, and pet food from 9 - 11 am. This site operates outdoors in a drive thru method. The volunteers load materials into vehicles, and check names off of a roster that is sent to the EAAA office via email or mail. The volunteer will need to be able to lift boxes weighing up to 35 pounds.

Catalogers are responsible for assisting the Archivist/Librarian in the maintenance of the Archive and Library Collections.  They may request or be assigned to specific collections; such as the postcard archivist, the yearbook librarian, etc.

Catalogers must complete two hours of training delivered by the Society's Executive Director. This training should include collection structure and policies and how to search PastPerfect database.
They shall inventory, catalog, and figure out how to store collection acquisitions.

Everything at the WW&F happens through the efforts of our team of volunteers. You may not realize it, but the WW&F is staffed entirely by volunteers. Volunteering on the railway is one of the greatest contributions you can make towards the success of the WW&F, and is essential to keeping the Railway running safely and growing.  Over the years, we've been fortunate to attract a skilled, diverse, and enthusiastic volunteer workforce.

"The Carpentry department is responsible for maintaining the wooden car fleet of the WW&F. We build new cars, rebuild the old stuff and maintain the operating fleet. We work on the wooden car bodies, and the associated metal work including hand rails, steps, roofs. If you are skilled or interested in work that will help us out let us know.

BTG is seeking 2 volunteers for our open hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays. These opportunities involve serving community members directly by assisting them to sign up for programs, check-in, find what they are needing, and checking out. Excellent communication skills, the ability to interact with people from all walks of life, as well as patience and empathy are essential for these roles.  Basic computer skills are a plus, and we will train. 

BTG is seeking 2-3 people to volunteer for our winter coats and boots distribution. We are seeking volunteers who enjoy working with the public, and within a fast-paced environment. This volunteer opportunity requires friendly and patient community service skills, as well as an ability to communicate effectively with other volunteers and staff. The ability to speak Arabic and English is a plus, but not required. The task for these volunteer positions is to distribute coats/footwear to community members who visit BTG, as well as document items distributed. Volunteers at BTG work within a supportive team and not expected to volunteer alone.

The Ronald McDonald House in Bangor is seeking individuals to assist with overnight shifts on occasional weeknights and/or weekends. Overnight shifts during the week begin at 9:00pm and end at 8:00am the following day. Shifts include sleep time from 11:00pm to 7:00am, as long as there are no emergencies in the house. Weekend shifts may be extended depending on the volunteer's preference. 

Volunteers arrive at 9:00pm and meet with evening shift volunteers or staff to transfer over the house. They complete closing procedures including turning off lights, ensuring doors are locked and closing the office. Volunteers check in with families to offer assistance or support as needed. Volunteers sleep in a private room with an attached bathroom. Volunteers may sleep during the overnight shift but must respond to any emergency calls (i.e., alarms going off, families locked out of their rooms, etc.). Morning procedures include opening the house for the day, taking out the trash, turning on lights, restocking supplies and opening the office. Day shift staff/volunteers will arrive by 8:00am to relieve the overnight volunteer.

Volunteers cover shifts when our Overnight Staff is on vacation or out sick. Volunteers may cover regular weekend shifts, or occasional/as-needed shifts on weekdays or weekends depending on the individual's availability and preferences. 

Volunteers are required to complete training to learn RMHC protocols and procedures.

We're looking for a volunteer team member who has and enjoys making connections to help raise awareness and support for adult literacy in the Bangor area. With a Resource Development Plan to guide us, this committee is looking to grow the number of donors to support this privately funded mission.  We want to expand our established appeal program, endowment, a signature fundraiser, and grant writing program.  Additionally, we are looking to further develop our major and planned giving programs. 

While experience with these types of campaigns is helpful, we are most interested in working with team members who are energetic, positive, connected, and passionate about elevating adults and families out of poverty in our region through literacy (basic education) and mentorship.

Every day, Literacy Volunteers hears from adults who want to be able to read, write, and/or speak and understand English better. Their requests are urgent. In many ways, their lives depend on it since better literacy affords a higher standard of living, access to better information to make decisions, and a sense of belonging--all things we value.

Volunteer tutors are needed to help adult students develop these skills. The volunteers feel great knowing that they are helping another on such a fundamental level.

If you enjoy teaching, coaching, or mentoring and are patient, empathetic, and flexible, we want you to join our team. Volunteer tutors receive advance training and then are carefully assigned an adult to help them either improve their reading, writing, and spelling and/or English speaking skills. We support tutor-student pairs with available materials, mentors, and activities.

Starting in January 2025, new Tutor Certification will be available entirely online. So an interested tutor can get the training whenever it works for them.

Role Description Purpose:  To support the county Extension office and county Extension staff in implementing the University of Maine Cooperative Extension plan of work in a way that addresses the needs and interests of county residents and aligns with Extension’s mission to help Maine people improve their lives through an educational process that uses research-based knowledge focused on issues and needs.

JA Maine delivers learning experiences to classrooms, K-12, throughout Maine, focused on financial literacy, work and career readiness, and entrepreneurship. Program Descriptions

We invite donors, authors and community members to come in and read a book (or two) to our classrooms. The Maine Forest and Logging Museum is looking for volunteers to help with various groundskeeping opportunities.  The grounds need to be raked and have brush cleared around buildings and walkways.  Our hiking trails need some post-winter attention, including brush-clearing, possible blow-down removal, and reblazing.  We're also looking for green thumbs for our gardens.  We have flower beds and pots that need attention.  We are also looking for someone to plant and maintain our vegetable garden.

Tuesdays are volunteer workdays, but arrangements can be made to work on other days.  We can provide some tools, but please bring gloves and any food and drink desired.

We seek volunteers to join our Tuesday Crew!  This group of volunteers does the "lion's share" of the repairs and maintenance of the beautiful grounds and collections that make up the Maine Forest and Logging Museum.  Volunteers gather Tuesday mornings at or just before 9am, and after a conference to plan the workday, they commence tasks including mowing, plowing, tree removal, machinery maintenance and repair, and building construction, maintenance and repair.  They work year-round as the weather permits.  They break for lunch and story-telling around 11:30, and resume work after an hour.  The workday usually ends around 2 or 3pm.  The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming.  No special skills are required....just a willingness to do good work.  If you are interested, please contact the office at 207-974-6278, info@maineforestandloggingmuseum.org, or just show up on Tuesday!

Are you a woodworker or a blacksmith or do you have some other colonial era skill that you can demonstrate.  We're looking for a few people to demonstrate the skills that Mainer's used long ago as the land was settled.  Our volunteers showcase the history while demonstrating the techniques.  If you are interested in sharing your talents and making our events more special, please contact us to get started.

Love to cook and love the outdoors?  Why not combine them into one glorious experience?  The Maine Forest and Logging Museum needs volunteers to make the beans.  It's a multi-day affair and involves heavy lifting.  The first day has volunteers preparing the ingredients and getting the fires going.  The beans go into the ground at the end of that day, which takes 2 strong people and a metal pole.  The next day, the beans come out and are served to hungry guests.  The specifics of the bean-making job are:

If doing this job during Living History Days, the beans for Sunday must be prepared while Saturday's beans are being served.

It's a lot of work, but it is rewarding.  It's also a good time reminiscent of camping: preparing food outdoors with fires going, in very peaceful setting.

"The Track Laborer(s) are the force who maintain and repair
existing railroad track. Further, they are involved in the building of new track, replacement of worn materials including old ties, damaged or worn rail, helping install switches,  lining track and ballasting the track wherever needed.

Physical work includes hand spiking rail, shoveling stone ballast and lifting/placing wooden ties on the road bed. Jobs involve multiple levels of physical ability. Track Laborer(s) frequently work in crews of various sizes depending on the task at hand."

Volunteers are a critical part of the WW&F Railway's mission to rebuild Maine history. It is the volunteers that work on our projects, that meet and greet our visitors, and that operate our trains. We have no paid staff. 

We encourage new volunteers to come and find a place with us. Because of the variety of things we do, and the potential dangers of working around railroad equipment, we require that new volunteers only do work at the railroad when there are longer-term volunteers around, at least for the first couple of months, so that we can “show you the ropes”.

To volunteer, just show up. All ages, abilities, and interests are welcome. There is something for everyone - and we do our best to match volunteer capabilities and interests with our needs. Of particular note, we always can use additional laborers, skilled metal and wood workers, equipment operators, painters, carpenters and general workers. We also need help to staff our gift shop, prepare meals for the volunteers, clean the campus, act as docents and guides, and manage the day to day operations of one of Mid Coast Maine's premier historic sites. 

For those volunteers interested in train crew service, we have an initial waiting period as well as a training program. We ask that new volunteers accumulate at least 150 hours over no less than 6 months, before formal train crew service begins. This helps everyone to get to know everyone else better, and gives time for the new volunteer to decide if the museum is a right fit for them.

Volunteers are always present on Saturdays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Typically, work begins by 8 am on Saturdays (9am on weekdays) while “closing time” is after 4 PM. (During the late autumn and early winter months, when it gets dark early, we leave early.) Activities are usually rain or shine, but may move indoors during inclement weather.

Our volunteer corps is like a family. Many meet for breakfast before the day begins or for supper after it ends. Others keep in touch with each other throughout the week.

The Cedars is currently looking for a volunteer to join our team that can assist our staff with lunch and community outings.The role would involve accompanying staff and residents to restaurants, museums or other desired places of local travel. The Ronald McDonald Family Room provides an additional resource to the medical services provided to families at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center. Our Family Room, located on the pediatric inpatient floor, is a respite space for families whose children are hospitalized. The room includes a full kitchen, dining area, sitting area with a TV, as well as a washer and dryer. This is a non-clinical, comfortable space for families to relax just a few steps away from their child’s hospital room.

RMHC is looking for compassionate, hospitable, and encouraging volunteers to be ambassadors for Northern Light and RMHC. Volunteers should enjoy working with families, be engaging and friendly, and be able to communicate effectively with families and staff.

Volunteer Responsibilities:
• Welcome families and introduce them to the Family Room.
• Provide a listening ear and encouragement.
• Restock supplies: snacks, coffee, etc.
• Inventory items and communicate needs to Ronald McDonald House staff about room needs.

Shifts are available every day including weekends. Shifts can be flexible and are based on the volunteer's availability. Volunteers will complete the volunteer training requirements for Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center and then work with RMHC staff to learn more about the Family Room. 

PWH has a wide variety of at-home sewing projects for volunteers to assist with throughout the year. Examples of tasks: hemming sheets, cutting down towels, making reusable shopping bags or masks out of blue wrap, creating children’s dresses and shorts We also have a sewing circle that meets almost monthly at PWH to work on projects.

ITNPortland is seeking volunteers to drive older adults and those with a disability in the Greater Portland area. Rides with us aren’t just for medical appointments- our service provides our members with rides to essentials as well as recreation activities, religious activities, and shopping. Life isn’t just about medical appointments, and we help those who cannot drive themselves stay active and engaged in their community.

Volunteer drivers are needed for all times, but the need is greatest for weekdays between 8am and 5pm. All volunteers are provided training, and can be reimbursed for mileage.

General Overview

The Campaign Cabinet is a group of volunteer community leaders with responsibility for achieving a successful Annual Campaign. Increasing fundraising results is critical to accomplishing United Way’s goals for community impact. Cabinet members’ work is especially important in the months leading up to the September Kick-off: opening doors to new workplace campaigns and new donors, setting goals for growth, visiting business/organization leadership (“leadership” herein) of potential and existing partner workplaces, helping to establish and strengthen United Way relationships, asking for increased giving and use of best campaign practices, securing commitments, and advocating for United Way of Mid Coast Maine. This opportunity will run for one year beginning in August/September 2024. 

Cabinet Members are responsible for the success of their Portfolio(s). Specific responsibilities vary by Portfolio. Cabinet members report to the Campaign Chair, members are supported by United Way staff members as well.

Loaned Executives join the Campaign team in the fall and follow up on the commitments secured by Cabinet members. The Loaned Executives organize and speak at the actual campaign presentations, working with Employee Campaign Managers at the various workplaces. Cabinet members communicate with and support the Loaned Executive assigned to their Portfolio throughout the fall, to ensure overall fundraising success.

Responsibilities:

•         Understand and speak effectively about United Way of Mid Coast Maine’s “Mission, Vision, and Values”

•         Review all accounts for any connections to assist in Portfolio(s) establishment.

•         Prospect for new companies to support our community

•         Work closely with UWMCM staff on specific strategies and goals for each account within a Portfolio, identify the initial outreach person (staff or cabinet member)

•       Initiate account visit with leadership(staff may accompany you) to discuss and present:

o Present UWMCM’s Mission, Vision, and Values and UWMCM’s targeted goals for the account, and ask about their community/business priorities.

•         Review with staff a proposed goal for each Portfolio, and as a full Cabinet, recommend the overall Campaign Goal to United Way’s Board of Directors.

•         Year - round requirements:

o   January – May:  review goals for the current year, plan for next campaign year goals, prepare and attend campaign finale, attend monthly or bi-monthly meetings, attend Campaign celebration

o   May – August – attend monthly cabinet meetings, Update Division Goals & Totals, outreach to leaders – secure commitments, September – attend Campaign Kickoff

o   August – December – Meetings will increase to bi-weekly, During the public Campaign, mid-September to mid-December, be readily accessible to the Loaned Executive(LE) assigned to the Portfolio, track progress, and follow up as needed to ensure successful Portfolio results and overall Campaign

Potential Cabinet members should:

•         Have a passion for the organization’s mission

•         Have a large circle of influence

•         Be comfortable asking leadership for help in making United Way of Mid Coast Maine’s campaign a success

•         Agree to attend meetings and be actively engaged

Did you know Good Shepherd Food Bank has two distribution center locations? In addition to our flagship location in Auburn, the Food Bank also has a location in Hampden. Volunteer opportunities at the Hampden Distribution Center consists primarily of packing food boxes for two programs, the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) and the Community Health & Hunger Program (CHHP).

The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) works to improve the health of low-income people at least 60 years of age by supplementing their diets with nutritious USDA commodity foods. The Community Health & Hunger Program (CHHP) provides healthcare partners with pre-packed emergency food bags for direct and immediate distribution to those who identify as food insecure.   We may also ask our volunteers to help with occasional/seasonal produce inspection.

Our Hampden location welcomes volunteers Monday-Thursday: 8am-4pm and Friday: 8am-12pm. We are looking for volunteers that can help promote and recruit participants to our event.  We are also looking for volunteers to help post flyers around town and possible help on event day to set up and clean.

Boothbay Rides connects residents of the Boothbay region without transportation with volunteers ready to take them to their appointments or errands. Most rides are right in the region, but if you’re a frequent errands-runner to Damariscotta or Brunswick, volunteer with us and you get a buddy to make the drive with! Connect with your community, share stories, and even make a new friend! There’s no minimum time commitment, only pickup the rides you can!

How does it work? Those needing rides contact us with their appointment information, including approximate appointment length and accessibility accommodations, if any. We then send out an email to our pool of volunteer drivers to see who is available. Once a driver is found, we connect them with the rider to establish pickup details. Drivers are expected to use their own vehicles for this volunteer opportunity, but we can even help to cover the cost of gas! 

Volunteer Drivers are expected to hold a valid Driver's License and be up to date on their vehicle registration and inspection. Drivers must also have a minimum $300,000 liability auto insurance coverage. CRC will run a Maine State background check, and you are welcome to request a copy of the results.

We are in desperate need of someone with graphic design and file format skills to work on branding, as well as media for upcoming and annual programs. If you have a background in graphic design and some time to spare, we would really love to talk with you! 

BCHC is in need of a photographer to help get amazing pictures for use in social media and other promotions in the future. These pictures would include current pictures of the community at events held throughout the year, old buildings and structures, architectural wonders, scenic views, public institutions, etc. Photos should include primarily areas in Biddeford, but not restricted to one area, and also surrounding communities. 

If you have an eye for color, composition, and love to take pictures, you are who we want. College students, high school photography students, retired photographers or those who love to take pictures as a hobby are all welcome to contact us. 

If you have knowledge and experience in the use of Adobe and editing, that would be great! 

A Videographer would be a great asset to help with various events and programs throughout the year, specifically the BCHC Hall of Fame Ceremony, the La Kermesse Festival, the Cultural Cuisine and the Voices of Biddeford interviews as well as occasional programs and presentations throughout the year. 

If this is something you are seriously interested in, we could really use your skills!

Looking for someone energetic with a background in fundraising to assist our nonprofit oganization with fundraising events. Support will be provided via the board and volunteers. Prior experience and interest in fundraising is a big plus. If this is something you are interested in, please be sure to contact us via the website or email.  Fundraising is an integral part of our nonprofit organization and needed to support ongoing programs such as the Greater Biddeford-Saco Music Hall of Fame, BCHC Cultural Cuisine and more. Help is needed with solicitations, letter writing, campaigns, fundraising database management, annual raffle, and much more!

BCHC participates in several events throughout the year which showcase the Cultural Cuisines available in the community. These include participating in RiverJam, La Kermesse, Cookies Around the World during the Holiday Season and possibly WinterFest (in 2024) featuring Desserts from Around the World. 

If you have a passion for cooking, or would like to commit to helping, and/or cooking a cultural dish for these events in 2024, we really would love to have you join us. Help is needed to work and set up these events, as well as the cooking itself.

All costs for food supplies will be reimbursed for those participating in the cooking part of the events. If this is something that intrigues you, please be sure to let us know. We are always looking for a variety of cultural foods to offer for tasting. 

Looking for someone with knowledge of marketing/communications and various platforms to help with promotion of the organization and its programs. Knowledge of MailChimp, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Zoom, and Hootsuite is a plus.

Whether you are a college student with an interest in social media, or are a retired executive, it doesn't matter to us. What matters is that you have an interest and passion for helping BCHC to develop a sound marketing/communication plan, and that you have the ability to train others, willing to help with social media and news postings, etc, and can promote the organization by helping to market it and to grow it in a healthy and positive way. 

As Chair of the committee, tasks also include oversight of those doing marketing, advertising, social media and the website, to assure that scheduled posts are set up on social media, a newsletter gets done on a regular basis, there is oversight and/or writing of press releases,  and a budget is maintained for communications.

The Cedars is looking for some assistance during the weekend in the afternoon with our activity cart. The position is very flexible in regards to time. This would involve visiting some of our patients in the Samuel L. Cohen Rehab Center and delivering activity supplies such as books, games, puzzles and art materials. Training will be provided and experience working with seniors is preferred but not required.

Pet visits with residents add so much to the quality of life here at The Cedars. With regular visits, there are great health benefits, such as decreased blood pressure, increase in mood and a sense of overall wellbeing.

If you have a certified therapy animal that you would like to share with our community, we would be interested in connecting with you! Duties include 1:1 visits in resident rooms and common areas. 

Please make sure that your pet has an updated health record, including all required immunizations. A pet health certificate and an interview must be completed before beginning.

MFS relies on volunteer docents to welcome visitors and to share the stories of the Popham Colony, the original Virginia, and of Maine's First Ship. We need guides who can work regular shifts and those who can fill in when needed. 

This is a fun way to interact with people from all over--from locals to international tourists.
No experience is necessary, just enthusiasm and interest.  Training will prepare you to enhance each visitor's experience.  Our visitor center has displays on the history of the Popham Colony and on the building of wooden ships, even a small museum shop. On volunteer workdays shipbuilders and riggers may be present as well.

Flexible schedules are created monthly.  Summer is our busy season with a need for docents lasting into the fall.  We will train new volunteers as necessary.  Volunteers under 18 are welcome when accompanied by an adult.

Volunteers on the Development Committee work to broaden public awareness and support through education of the United Way and its mission and values.  Individuals work on all facets of the organization, including marketing the campaign, increasing awareness, press releases, annual video, etc.  Volunteers also provide valuable support with their knowledge of community contacts.

Volunteers seek financial and volunteer support to fund valuable programs in the community through United Way. Individuals work on a particular division (finance) and make thank you calls, cultivate new accounts, and most importantly, ask for an increase in corporate contributions and employee participation.  Sales experience is a plus!

This is an opportunity for an individual or small group to help us maintain the shelter. If you enjoy cleaning, have great attention to detail and want to give back to your community this opportunity is for you! The shelter is more than 100 years old, is a relatively large building with a lot of nooks and crannies, and is used heavily 24 hours each day. While our employees and guests perform daily maintenance chores, we all know that our facility is never as clean as it should be. Duties included in this position would be to choose a room/area within the shelter of appropriate size for your group and complete a thorough, deep clean. This would include sweeping, mopping, polishing and possibly waxing the floors, baseboards, walls, windows, furniture, woodwork, and fixtures - anything you think would be beneficial for our overnight guests!

The Museum has an ongoing need for docents to help us with educational program development and presentation.

We have several existing school and library programs geared for varying ages; we are also developing new STEAM (Science,Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) programs for various grade levels.

Our focus is on the history of animals and humans in a maritime context.  Our exhibits and the extensive research behind them all derive from various STEAM elements (i.e. underwater archaeology, ecology, discovery and civilization made possible by animal/human partnerships).

The Brewer Area Food Pantry distributes food to about 1,263 people in Brewer and Eddington.  Volunteers are needed to assist with distribution, sorting donated food, delivering food, picking up food donations and stocking shelves 8 a.m. to n1 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.

Partners for World Health (PWH) is a non profit organization in Portland, ME dedicated to reclaiming serviceable medical equipment and unused medical supplies and shipping to hospitals and health clinics in need around the world. PWH also helps to improve the local environment by redistributing items within New England. In addition, PWH coordinates global health volunteer opportunities to various parts of Africa and Asia.

PWH is seeking a volunteer driver for our 20 foot box truck to pick up medical supplies and equipment. As a driver, you'll be the friendly face representing our organization, picking up donated goods within our community, with opportunities to travel across New England. We pick up supplies and equipment from locations in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Connecticut as well as Maine. 

We are seeking someone with a clean driving record, a valid driver's license, and the ability to lift up to 50lbs. No CDL is required. DOT certification or willingness to obtain is a plus.
