It’s 3am and a family of five has just lost their home and everything in it to a fire. They’re devastated, scared uncertain, and…homeless. You’re called and drive to the scene. You’re able to offer a reassuring smile and a calming voice. Within the hour you have located a temporary place for them to stay, a way to eat, and some clothing to wear. You have helped them to be warm, safe, and comfortable for the night. You’ve calmed them and set up follow-up services for the next day. Ultimately, you have offered them hope when they need it most. You are a Red Cross Disaster Responder.

A hurricane is threatening the East Coast and heading straight for Portland. You are a part of a team that moves supplies to a local gymnasium. Cots are set up. Meals are on their way. Everything is in place. Authorities are evacuating homes closest to the ocean and directing those people to your shelter location. You’re ready for them. You are a Red Cross Disaster Volunteer.

The recruitment effort takes many forms.  There's internet research, online postings, virtual events to run, tracking of progress, and even events to attend. Also, almost all of this can be done from your choice location as long as you have connectivity.  The exception would be if you want to go out in your community (like to post flyers) or decide to attend a local event for me.

This is why we offer free programs for different ages and organizations led by Volunteer Instructors, Presenters, and Assistants. This is your opportunity to share your knowledge, to flex your teaching abilities, and to use your communications skills, all while doing your part to save lives and property. All training provided; only sign up for shifts and sessions that fit your schedule!

DISASTER AND EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS FOR YOUTH
Save lives and prevent injury through The Pillowcase Project. The Pillowcase Project is a national youth preparedness program offered by Red Cross regions across the country. The 40- or 60-minute presentation provides emergency preparedness education to youth in grades 3-5 (ages 8-11) in school classrooms and other settings. Numerous tools have been developed for this program including a standardized curriculum, workbook, quizzes and activities which have been carefully constructed with the help of curriculum and hazard experts. Many tools for presenters have been developed to foster consistency and fidelity to the program goals and objectives. The highly interactive presentation addresses home fire safety, a local natural hazard, psycho-social coping skills and household preparedness steps like making a plan and a kit. Team Member roles include either being a presenter, presentation assistant, administrative support, or presenter trainer!

Be Red Cross Ready teaches people how to prepare for and respond to disasters likely to occur in their community. Participants in Hands Only CPR learn how to check for consciousness, call 911 (or the local emergency number) and give continuous chest compressions. Ready Rating helps businesses, schools, and organizations become better prepared for disasters and other emergencies. All of these are led by volunteer Presenters and Assistants.

As a blood drive volunteer in Piscataquis, Penobscot, Somerset, or Waldo county, you'll be asked to serve just once every  month. While it may not be frequent, it truly is important, and it provides a wonderful opportunity to form meaningful relationships with the donors.

Your role as a volunteer involves warmly greeting donors and ensuring their comfort during their visit. After their donation, you'll make sure they have access to refreshments and engage in friendly conversations. As they prepare to leave, you'll likely be the last Red Crosser to thank them and tell them you hope to see them next time.

If you are a people person, are at least 16 years old, and possess some computer skills to assist with donor check-in procedures, there could almost not be a better opportunity!

Join the Home Fire Campaign and save lives by installing smoke alarms and educating residents about home fire risk!

Each year, the Red Cross responds to an average of more than 60,000 disasters, the vast majority of which are home fires. With our coalition partners, we are working to help reduce death and injuries from home fires.

On April 11th, from 3 to 5 PM we are gathering as many people as we can to help us clean up the downtown area of Augusta! We will all meet here at the Access Center, divide up into groups, and go to various areas around downtown that need major clean up. The more help we can get, the more of our community we can clean up and make beautiful. This is a great way to get involved in community, support one another, meet some new people, give back, and have some fun too.

About the Workplace Safety Specialist/Trainers:

Are you organized, like people, and passionate about safety and equity?

Educators take notice! Safety Specialist volunteers will help OP Safety and Compliance Officer build and deliver training for the Ogunquit Playhouse safety plans and evacuation plans.

Some specialists will train our visiting design and production crews, as well as our actors and other volunteers in safety plans for various buildings on and off our campus. Trainings will happen throughout the season when new show companies arrive.

Other safety specialists may assist in writing, finalizing approved training to be delivered by trainers. Other safety specialists could update our Safety Training database to ensure all volunteer and paid staff have received and are up to date on their training.

Safety trainings will include Emergency Evacuation training, Active Attacker training, and more. 

Safety Specialists will work together to ensure records are current for staff who have or have not had various trainings, and will follow-up with scheduling.

The Alfond Youth & Community Center is often in need of youth sports coaches for both recreational sports and team sports. Share your love and passion for sport! You will teach sport-specific skills, mental toughness, good sportsmanship, and ultimately how to compete in a positive and productive way. Prior experience is not needed, we will provide you with coaching instructions.

Our youth sports rotate out every 8 weeks. We have football, flag football, softball, baseball, basketball, cheer, and more.

UWKV partners with 26 local schools and many area businesses to sponsor student Days of Caring. This annual event, held on a different day at each school or district, matches student volunteers with work projects at local sites in Kennebec County.

Celebrate Earth Day with a day of discovery and fun at Meet a Scientist! Connect with scientists and conservationists from across Maine, explore interactive experiences inspired by their work, and learn how to make an impact as a community scientist.

Volunteers assist with setting up and breaking down the space (tables, chairs, canopies if needed, place signs, etc) take shifts for the welcome welcome, directing people through the event, helping vendors to their station, answering visitors questions, refreshing materials and supplies when needed. Timeframe - 8:30am-2:30pm (6hrs)

(2-3 needed daily) Volunteers assist with checking campers in, setting up materials for the day (crafts, tools, equipment, etc.) assist with making and prepping project materials, participating in activities, monitoring the group for safety, assist with handing out snowshoes and support while using them if needed for walk-abouts Timeframe: 8am-5pm (9hrs) - shift options available

Share your skills and help someone reach their potential. Literacy Volunteer tutors are needed for basic reading and writing, math and digital literacy. Tutors are needed to support New Mainers learn English. You can be the reason someone is able to get a job, read to their children, and have a sense of accomplishment about their learning. No teaching experience is required, and we provide training. The next training will be April 28, May 5, and May 12, 2026. This Training is in-person and will be held at Augusta Adult and Community Education (AACE), 22 Armory Street, Augusta, ME 04330. The first session is an orientation that gives participants an understanding of the Literacy Volunteer program and the role of a tutor. It gives attendees an opportunity to see if this is the right fit for them. The next two sessions are about adult learning principles and teaching people of different cultures. This is a collaboration with AACE and Capitol Area New Mainers (CANMP). Registration will be through AACE. Check the LVK website for training updates.

Literacy Volunteers of Kennebec is the now the Kennebec County Affiliate for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. 

As the world’s leading program for giving books to young children, 0-5, the Imagination Library has proven its impact through years of remarkable achievements. Whether the invaluable time spent reading with a child, or the effects on early childhood literacy factors that have lifelong effects, the Imagination Library has a far-reaching spectrum of impact from the measurable to the immeasurable. Books are mailed directly to each child at no cost to the family. When families read together children are more prepared to enter school and develop a lasting interest in reading. Volunteers are needed to help promote the program.

Volunteers make a difference in the lives of the families that come through our doors by hosting, listening and by simply being there.

Weekend Coverage Volunteers manage the daily operations at the Ronald McDonald House. Volunteers may cover a few hours, a full day or an overnight shift. Overnight volunteers have a private room and bathroom, and overnight shifts include sleep time (volunteers respond to emergencies overnight as needed). 

Volunteers chose which weekends or shifts they cover and whether they are able to cover a few hours, an overnight shift, or more. This is a great opportunity for families to volunteer together!

Responsibilities include orienting families with House services, assisting families checking in and out of the house, daily household cleaning and upkeep, front desk coverage and preparing guest rooms for new families.

Orientation and training are provided and required. A staff member is always available on call for support.

The Ronald McDonald House provides a comfortable, safe, and free place for families to stay while their children are in the hospital or receiving medical or mental health treatment locally. The Bangor House is looking for volunteers to help keep this "home away from home" running strong!

Volunteers assist with a variety of activities based on their preferences and skills. Volunteers may check new families into the house, provide front desk coverage, answer phones, and assist with other administrative tasks. Volunteers are here to support families by answering their questions or providing a listening ear. They also help keep the house clean and organized and restock supplies.

Volunteers work in shifts either weekly, biweekly, monthly, or occasionally. Shifts are typically 3 hours but can be flexible depending on the volunteer's availability.

The Ronald McDonald Family Room provides an additional resource to the medical services provided to families at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center. Our Family Room, located on the pediatric inpatient floor, is a respite space for families whose children are hospitalized. The room includes a full kitchen, dining area, sitting area with a TV, as well as a washer and dryer. This is a non-clinical, comfortable space for families to relax just a few steps away from their child’s hospital room.

RMHC is looking for compassionate, hospitable, and encouraging volunteers to be ambassadors for Northern Light and RMHC. Volunteers should enjoy working with families, be engaging and friendly, and be able to communicate effectively with families and staff.

Volunteer Responsibilities:
• Welcome families and introduce them to the Family Room.
• Provide a listening ear and encouragement.
• Restock supplies: snacks, coffee, etc.
• Inventory items and communicate needs to Ronald McDonald House staff about room needs. 
• Keep the room tidy, clean, and organized

Shifts are available every day including weekends. Shifts can be flexible and are based on the volunteer's availability. Volunteers will complete the volunteer training requirements for Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center and then work with RMHC staff to learn more about the Family Room. 

The Ronald McDonald House in Bangor is seeking individuals to assist with overnight shifts on occasional weeknights and/or weekends. Overnight shifts during the week begin at 9:00pm and end at 8:00am the following day. Shifts include sleep time from 11:00pm to 7:00am, as long as there are no emergencies in the house. Weekend shifts may be extended depending on the volunteer's preference. 

Volunteers arrive at 9:00pm and meet with evening shift volunteers or staff to transfer over the house. They complete closing procedures including turning off lights, ensuring doors are locked and closing the office. Volunteers check in with families to offer assistance or support as needed. Volunteers sleep in a private room with an attached bathroom. Volunteers may sleep during the overnight shift but must respond to any emergency calls (i.e., alarms going off, families locked out of their rooms, etc.). Morning procedures include opening the house for the day, taking out the trash, turning on lights, restocking supplies and opening the office. Day shift staff/volunteers will arrive by 8:00am to relieve the overnight volunteer.

Volunteers cover shifts when our Overnight Staff is on vacation or out sick. Volunteers may cover regular weekend shifts, or occasional/as-needed shifts on weekdays or weekends depending on the individual's availability and preferences. 

Volunteers are required to complete training to learn RMHC protocols and procedures. 

The Ronald McDonald House provides a comfortable, safe, free place for families to stay while their children are in the hospital or receiving treatment locally. 

We are looking for volunteers who can provide house coverage for occasional or regular shifts from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday (and Sundays from 5:00 to 9:00 pm).

Volunteers help keep this "home away from home" running strong! Volunteers assist with checking families in and out of the house, providing front desk coverage, helping with administrative tasks, as well as some light cleaning, such as emptying the dishwasher and disinfecting counters and tables in the kitchen.

Meals from the Heart volunteers provide meals for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Bangor while their children receive treatment at a local hospital. Your efforts will alleviate stress for families after a long day at the hospital. 

This is a great activity for individuals, families or small groups (Please note, group size is limited to 5 participants). You do not have to be a trained chef! Basic home-cooking skills are all you need. Volunteers typically make meals for 12 - 18 people. 

This program is flexible, allowing volunteers to cook a meal one time, regularly, or occasionally. The Ronald McDonald House is open 365 days a year and is looking for volunteers to help cook dinner for our families each night of the week, including weekends and holidays. Breakfast opportunities are available on Saturdays and Sundays.

Meals must be made in the kitchen at the Ronald McDonald House and cannot be prepared or cooked at home.

Our Volunteers serve at the Visitor Information Center on Portland's beautiful waterfront, the hub for travelers searching for local tours, restaurants, attractions, and where to stay. It is well-stocked with brochures, Visitor’s Guides, maps of the region, and plenty of pro-tips and recommendations to help make the most of visitor’s stay in Greater Portland

The volunteer schedule is very flexible, weekly and bi-weekly, a set day or on-call.  We appreciate a 6 month commitment but exceptions can be made for part-year residents.

Volunteer Treasurer

The Falmouth Historical Society is seeking a volunteer Treasurer/Board Member with nonprofit experience. Roles include Treasurer/Bookkeeper to prepare monthly reports for the Board meeting, preparing the annual budget and all government/tax/nonprofit filings. Bookkeeping includes keeping ledgers up to date, processing bills, payments, deposits, donations, merchandise sales, dues and grants. Candidate should be proficient in Quickbooks Online. We use Wild Apricot as our membership management software, which is connected to Quickbooks online at various points. Knowledge of WA, or other nonprofit member management software, is necessary. All banking is done online and the Treasurer’s job can be done remotely. In-person meetings would be as needed. The tasks require about 8 hours per month, with additional hours for end-of-year filings. We are a small non-profit with a friendly, collegial working environment. The current Assistant Treasurer would continue in that role.

We’re looking for a kind-hearted volunteer to brighten our community with flowers and friendly faces.  Flowers and bud vases will be provided.  You arrange in your own style and then deliver to our residents with along with a smile.

Facilities Volunteers help keep our campus welcoming, functional, and beautiful - a vital part of how we serve the public and support Maine’s food producers. As an extremely lean nonprofit, we rely on the generosity of in-kind volunteers to tackle the behind-the-scenes tasks that keep our community resource space running smoothly. A clean, well-maintained campus helps us draw in visitors, offer high-quality educational experiences, and create a positive, professional environment for the many nonprofits, community groups, and food-related organizations who use our space.

Volunteer tasks vary widely and can be tailored to your skills and interests. Examples include gardening or flower bed care, weeding, landscaping, paint touch-ups, drywall or small building repairs, lightbulb changes, tech troubleshooting, equipment repairs, and other general upkeep projects. Whether you love working outdoors, fixing things, or tackling satisfying one-off projects, we likely have a task that fits your strengths. Scheduling is extremely flexible - volunteers can set their own hours and choose projects that match their availability. Some tasks (like gardening) are ongoing throughout the season, while others (like patching drywall or repairing equipment) are one-time projects.

Class Assistants support our hands-on cooking workshops, tastings, and food-education classes by helping instructors deliver a smooth, welcoming, and mission-aligned experience for every participant. Most instructors are outside partners who come in just for the class; you are the on-the-ground representative who helps infuse our nonprofit’s mission, values, and Maine-focused messaging into each session.

Volunteers help with attendee check-in, answer questions about our organization, give a brief introduction at the start of class, and assist throughout the session by managing dishes, portioning and serving samples, supporting the instructor, and sharing information about membership opportunities. After class, you’ll help reset the space so it’s ready for the next group.

This role is genuinely fun and immersive; you essentially get to “audit” each class, tasting what participants taste, hearing everything the instructor teaches, and occasionally cooking along with the group. Some classes will include an MFBEC staff member alongside you; for others, it will be just you and the instructor working as a team. MFBEC staff handle class materials, ingredient prep, and most setup, though light setup assistance may be appreciated for certain sessions. Volunteers typically arrive 1 hour prior to scheduled class start time and stay 30 minutes-1 hour after for clean-up; classes range from 1 hour to 3 hours and many occur on weekday evenings or weekend days.

Help us bring Maine’s food stories directly into the community! Outreach Event Volunteers represent our nonprofit at local festivals, farmers markets, and special events, sharing our mission, promoting upcoming classes and membership, and sparking curiosity about Maine’s food systems. Our info tables are usually a mix of general awareness (who we are, what we do, why it matters) and an activity tied to the theme of the event itself. Past hands-on activities have included “plant your own heritage bean” stations, edible insect tasting and trivia, and Maine food sampling.

Maine Tasting Center staff will pack all supplies and prep any hands-on activities...you simply pick up the materials, attend the event, enjoy chatting with the public, and drop things off when you’re done. As a very small team stretched thin, we know how important it is to show up at community events, but we can’t seize every opportunity on our own. Volunteers like you make this outreach possible and make a huge difference in our ability to execute our mission and reach as many people as possible! 

These opportunities occur year-round and may take place near and far from Wiscasset - each opportunity is presented to our volunteers and you can sign up for it if you feel like it's a good fit for your schedule, travel tolerance and interests! Events are usually anywhere from 4-5 hours each and set-up/tear-down is typically minimal and quick - if extensive set-up (tents, tables, etc) is required, a Maine Tasting Center staff member will accompany you to assist. 

Join us in bringing our largest and most exciting on-campus events to life! Special Event Volunteers help us run public events like the Needham Festival and the Maine Night Market - celebrations that regularly draw 500–700+ attendees and require far more support than our small staff can provide. Volunteers typically commit to a 4–5 hour shift and serve in a wide variety of roles, all essential to creating a smooth, welcoming, and educational experience for our guests.

Before each event, we’ll reach out with details and a list of volunteer assignments, giving you the chance to sign up and indicate which roles you’d enjoy most. We need all kinds of help, from wayfinding and parking assistance, to running crafts and kids’ activities, to supporting cooking demonstrations, to staffing info tables. Event days are lively, community-centered, and incredibly fun, offering a hands-on way to support interactive, family-friendly food education right here in your local community.

Maine Food Storytellers lead our signature daily drop-in educational programs, Flavors of Maine, in the Tasting Room; these are engaging, story-driven sessions that introduce visitors to the complex landscape of Maine’s food systems. Each 45–90 minute program (June through October) weaves together narratives about individual producers, entire industries, support organizations, and the many ways they intersect to shape Maine’s vibrant food ecosystem. These sessions give visitors the foundational knowledge they need to understand why local food matters, where to find it, and how their choices directly support Maine’s farmers, fishermen, and food makers.

This role is perfect for outgoing, enthusiastic people who love teaching and can make complex ideas feel accessible and exciting. You may teach one person or up to 12 participants during a regular session, and occasionally up to 30 for private groups. Because programs are offered on a drop-in basis, scheduling requires a bit more flexibility than other opportunities. Some days we may not know until shortly before start time whether a session will run—though during peak season, programs typically fill and run reliably. Volunteers arrive 15 minutes before their scheduled session and should check in earlier in the day via phone, email, or text to confirm attendance numbers and any special considerations. Cleanup is minimal: bring glasses and plates to the kitchen, answer any lingering questions, and you’re done.

Training for this role is more extensive than most opportunities. Volunteers develop a deep understanding of Maine’s food systems - not just memorizing a script, but learning to answer questions thoughtfully and accurately, and becoming true ambassadors for local food. Training may include readings, practice sessions, and optional site visits to local producers to strengthen your knowledge.

MFBEC staff handle all food prep, materials, and setup; your job is to bring enthusiasm, clarity, and confidence to each session. This opportunity is especially well suited to people with existing experience in Maine’s food landscape, whether through nonprofits, farming, fishing, aquaculture, food education, or related work. For the right person, this is an incredibly rewarding role: you’ll learn a ton and experience the joy of watching visitors discover their own connection to Maine’s food systems - and leave ready to take meaningful action in their local food community.

The Delivery Driver is responsible for picking up items in Brewer and delivering and/or transporting meals to patron homes or other specified locations.  The Meals on Wheels Delivery Driver volunteer will pick up meals at the Durgin Center in Brewer and deliver to consumer homes.  Specifics routes and days needed are:

Weekly - Newport - Mondays, 3.5 hours needed, deliver to 8-10 consumers 

Weekly - Bangor - Tuesdays, 2.5 hours needed, deliver to 8-12 consumers

Weekly - Kenduskeag - Wednesdays, 3.5 hours needed, deliver to 5-7 consumers

Help Fight Food Insecurity

We currently are seeking volunteers to help fight food insecurity throughout Penobscot, Piscataquis, Hancock, and Washington counties. Local volunteer support is needed at community food pantries to assure access to nutritious food for families in need. Volunteers will help stock shelves, pack/unpack food boxes, and greet food pantry guests.

Time requirement is generally once a week when the food pantry is open and the number of hours worked would be determined by the volunteer and pantry.

Volunteers are also needed for the Commodity Food Supplemental Program to pack and deliver boxes once a month.

The University of Maine Center on Aging Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) manages the free evidence-based exercise program called Bone Builders. This program is designed to prevent and reverse the effects of osteoporosis and the fractures that can occur with low bone density.  The exercise program increases participant's bone density through strength and flexibility training, balance exercises, and fall prevention education. 

RSVP is currently searching for eager volunteers to support our mission- to support older adults in becoming stronger through Bone Builders. Volunteers, otherwise known as Lay Leaders, lead year-long classes that are held twice a week, and last an hour and a half in duration. Each Lay Leader would be expected to commit 4 hours a week (2 hours each class). All lay leaders are trained by a Bone Builder Master Trainer before leading classes.

Looking for a new volunteer opportunity to spark joy in your life? Seashore Trolley Museum seeks new recruits from the community who want to learn a unique, new skill and help the Museum provide an awesome experience for guests this season by becoming volunteer trolley Conductors and Operators!

Seashore Trolley Museum's trolleys are the real deal; they operate on an electric railway and are the real trolleys from the late 1800s-early 1900s (and some cities like Boston, El Paso, New Orleans, etc. still operate trolleys and/or light rail vehicles today!).  These are different than the tourist trolleys (which are really buses designed to look like our real trolleys for nostalgia) that are out in the summers and are operated by for-profits with paid bus drivers. 

Volunteers will learn how to be a Conductor first. During the training classes, new volunteers will be trained by a pair of Seashore Instructors. Topics will include the ins and outs of the information shared with guests about the museum’s history and the robust transit collection, how to safely board guests on the trolleys, how the railroad works and is operated (rules), and the duties of being a Conductor. Additional experience will be gained by working with experienced Conductors. When ready, the students will be qualified as Seashore Conductors who will be able to work in revenue service, paired with a qualified Operator who will operate the car. The next step will be to complete further instruction with a Seashore Instructor on operating the car.

The Museum is holding their next training courses in June 2026. To be eligible, volunteers must become members of the Museum, be 18 years old by the conclusion of the course, and must hold a valid motor vehicle operator’s license from any U.S. state.

The Christine B. Foundation is seeking members to join it's Board of Directors. Help provide new insights and solutions to accelerate our vision of stronger cancer support in Eastern Maine. Are you ready to help steer us into the future?

When you have been diagnosed with cancer, uncertainty consumes you. Support may take on many different forms for different people. The Christine B. Foundation (CBF) is here to help navigate through this uncertainty for 1,000 Mainers a year, extending access to healthy food, nutritional information and the comfort and strength essential to their strength and comfort. We’re hoping you can join us. 

CBF is looking for empathetic and compassionate individuals that enjoy interacting with and assisting patients facing cancer and would be dedicated to improving the patient experience through our Cancer Nutrition Assistance Program (CNAP). This service provides patients and their families with both a no cost fresh Produce Prescription program and home delivered medically tailored grocery packages.The CNAP Site Representative(s) primary role is to be the face of CBF at our pick up location in the Lafayette Family Cancer Center in Brewer. Every week our Site Representatives greets patients with a cheerful smile and assists them through the process of selecting from an array of fresh fruits and vegetables that best suits their medical and personal needs. 

Working directly with Program Staff, you will be trained on critical aspects of the many aspects of CNAP programming, HIPAA and program policy, EHR computer software, and the tools to really make a difference to each patient you meet.  You will also be trained as a volunteer under Northern Light Health to ensure that we are aware of and respect their policies and procedures.  In this position you will make an immediate and positive difference in the lives of those affected by cancer. This position is in a medical setting where you will regularly interact directly with patients, actively use a computer with EHR software, and provide patients with nutritional support.

Position Role: 

Assist patients being seen by CBF to access and select items from the Fresh Produce Prescription Program . The assistance will help in supporting the nutritional needs of patients and aid in gathering information to measure CBF's impact and enhance the patient experience.

Opened in 2006, the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland ReStore is a discount retail outlet open to the public that sells donated new and gently used building materials, appliances and furniture at greatly reduced prices.

All of the profits from ReStore are used to support Habitat for Humanity home building projects in the Greater Portland area. Just like our build sites, the ReStore uses volunteer hours to achieve its goals and we need your help!

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: cleaning, testing, and displaying of product; inventory and pricing; and customer service. Desirable qualifications/skills include being professional, flexible, patient, organized, self-motivated, and friendly. Construction and retail experience is helpful but not at all necessary.

First Amendment Museum – Augusta, Maine

The First Amendment Museum is looking for friendly, curious volunteers to join our team as docents! Docents welcome visitors, lead tours, and help spark meaningful conversations about the five freedoms of the First Amendment—religion, speech, press, assembly, and petition.

No teaching or history experience required (though it is appreciated) —just enthusiasm, reliability, and a willingness to learn. Training is provided!

Adult volunteers play an important role in the 4-H program. They mentor 4-H youth, coordinate local community clubs, teach in 4-H school groups and help to plan and run events. Types of Volunteers Needed:

4-H Club Leader: Work in partnership with youth ages 5-18 to develop citizenship, leadership, and life skills. Whether you want to oversee a general club or a focus on a specific topic, you'll help young people learn the importance of record keeping, public speaking, and service learning, while learning new skills and having fun.

4-H Project Leader: Share your skills, talents or special interests such as photography, horses, dogs, rabbits, sewing, computers or woodworking. In this role, you may be called upon to offer a number of sessions at an afterschool program, or assist a club leader by sharing your expertise and working with their club members.

4-H Special Interest Club Leader: Special Interest (SPIN) clubs are generally 6 sessions held on a topic of the volunteer’s choosing. Some SPIN clubs we have offered in the past include Introduction to Horses, Cake Decorating, Bees and Beyond, and more.

Episodic 4-H Volunteer: We have a variety of volunteer opportunities that don't require a long-term commitment. Judging at the fair, helping with a specific fundraiser, assisting with a garden project, scoring 4-H project records, or organizing an annual county event to name a few.

The purpose of the CCEA is to promote the University of Maine Cooperative Extension’s educational programs, oversee local county funding according to the County Extension Act, and bring back ideas from the community.

We are looking for a volunteer yoga instructor for 1xmonthly yoga classes for our residents. We are a non-profit halfway house that focuses on community reintegration and are looking for provide healthy in-house activities to improve morale with our residents. 

We have a few board seats that we would like to fill.  We are in need of someone to help with program developmen.   Duties include attending board meetings, fundraising and recruiting participants for our Save Your Breath annual event.  

A radon director to oversee the program.  Duties include compling contracts for contractors to install radon air abatement systems for single family low income homeowners.  Reviewing financial records to qualify homeowners for our program. 

 An early lung cancer screening director. Duties include talking with early lung cancer coordinators in hospitals and compiling contracts for those interested in receiving finanical assistance for their program.  Monitoring the grant money and secure statistical date.

News Letter Director.  Duties include collecting stories, foundation updates and other material to create a monthly news letter.

Volunteers will assist the Buildings Specialist on all aspects of facility maintenance.

Volunteers assist in keeping the building clean and organized.

We serve three meals a day to up to 60 guests.  We are fortunate to have a generous community.  As food donations arrive, kitchen volunteers assist with receiving, labeling, and storgage. Our kitchen volunteers also assist in preparing, cooking, and serving nutritious meals and snacks for our adult guests. All volunteers help with keeping the kitchen clean, well-organized, and in compliance with food safety regulations and laws.

Junior Achievement (JA) is seeking friendly and motivated volunteers (from all occupations) to facilitate pre-planned programs on entrepreneurship, work readiness, and financial literacy to Maine students. Volunteers lead five 45-minute sessions at their convenience over the course of a semester. Classes are taught during school hours and provide a unique chance to work with the same class for several weeks.

Love pampering, conversation, and making people smile?  We’re looking for a friendly volunteer to provide nail painting for our senior community. Ideally, this would be the 2nd and/or 4th Saturday morning of each month, but we’re happy to be flexible if you have different availability. All supplies are provided—just bring your creativity and warm spirit! If you’re interested in sharing a little color and joy, we’d love to hear from you!

Tech-savvy and enjoy helping others?   We’re looking for a friendly volunteer to provide tech support on our senior campus, helping residents with everyday technology questions like phones, tablets, email, and apps.  All interactions to occur in public, common spaces, no need to enter resident personal living spaces.  We are flexible with the day, time, and number of visits per month.  It’s a wonderful way to share your skills, build connections, and make technology feel less intimidating for our residents.

Do you play piano?  We are seeking a volunteer piano player to provide live dinner music for our seniors during the evening meal. An electric piano is available on site, and the music would begin around 4:45 pm and last approximately one hour. The day of the week is flexible and can be determined by your availability.  This is a wonderful opportunity to share your talent and help create a warm, enjoyable dining experience for our seniors.

KV Van Volunteers are used to drive our passengers to medical and social service appointments throughout Maine. Drivers receive a generous mileage reimbursement for their service.
