Take service to a whole new level!
The Maine Commission for Community Service is a state government body that understands volunteerism is a key component of thriving, vibrant communities.
To foster service that tackles high priority issues in communities, the Commission provides training for volunteer program leaders, AmeriCorps and other grants to kickstart community volunteer efforts, and a voice for understanding the relationship between civic health, civic engagement, and volunteerism.
The Commission was established in 1994 by Executive Order and under state statute in 1995.
The 25 board members of the Commission are appointed by the governor to three-year terms and each represents a specific segment of Maine's volunteer sector.
There currently are openings on the Commission for individuals with expertise in
- environmental issues including housing, energy, and natural resources;
- volunteer program design and volunteer management; or
- early childhood development (0-5).
The Commission strives to keep geographic representation and is highly interested in candidates from Downeast, Aroostook, and Midcoast (Waldo, Knox, Lincoln) areas. AmeriCorps Alums and returned Peace Corps volunteers are welcome! This is a great way to serve your state and expand your network!
