Volunteer: Support families of hospitalized children after work!

RMHC provides a home-away-from-home for families of ill or seriously injured children. Volunteers are the backbone of Ronald McDonald House Charities. The Ronald McDonald House in Bangor is looking for compassionate individuals, or pairs of volunteers, to contribute to the overall atmosphere of warmth and support. Volunteers assist in taking referrals from the hospital, checking new families in to the house, preparing rooms for the next family post check out, and greeting returning families after a long day at the hospital. Volunteers assist with cleaning tasks, and organization projects to ensure a safe and cleanly environment for all guests. We are seeking volunteers who are able to commit to one 3-hour shift on a weekly or biweekly basis. We have the most opportunities at this time for evening volunteers from 6-9pm on weekdays

This is for our meal program.  We need someone who is able to place meals in meal container following the list of count needed.  The packer will begin at 7:00 a.m. and help pack meals for Ellsworth, Blue Hill, Deer Isle, Bucksport and Penobscot in bags for delivery.

Volunteer: State Health insurance Program/Senior Medicare Patrol Counselor

This professional level volunteer opportunity involves navigating seniors through the Medicare system and providing education and support to seniors about Medicare and MaineCare.  SHIP/SMP counselors identify and report discrepancies in Medicare and MaineCare claims and other forms of errors, waste, fraud and abuse to the SHIP/SMP Coordinator.  Volunteer opportunities for Administrative support within the SHIP/SMP program are also available.  These volunteers are responsible for entering and updating information in various software programs including Smart Facts and SAMS database system.  In depth basic training and job shadowing required.  Public speaking ability preferred.  Computer experience strongly preferred.

Volunteer: Savvy Caregiver Program Trainer

This training is a free 12 hour/six week educational program for family and friends that are caring for individuals with dementia living in the community.  The Maine Savvy Caregiver Program builds on attitude, skills and knowledge.  Attitude:  The caregiver develops a sense of confidence in their caregiving role and they learn a lot about self-care.  Skills:  Caregivers learn tips and strategies for interacting and communicating with the person that has dementia and to understand and manage their challenging behaviors.  Knowledge:  Caregivers learn what dementia is and how it affects the person and their behavior.  To become a Savvy Caregiver Associate trainer you'll observe the six week class, attend a training to learn how to teach the class, co-train the class with a Master Trainer and teach the class under the supervision of a Master Trainer (observation and consultation).

 

In addition, the trainer will be responsible for promoting the class in their area with the help of the Master Trainer, who will provide the flyers and brainstorm locations and providers to advertise the training.

When offering the training, the trainer will spend approximately 5 - 6 hours per week for the six weeks.  A trainer may offer  approximately 2 - 4 trainings per year.

Responsible for driving, visiting, and/or phoning the clients participating in this program.

Essential duties and responsibilities

Communicates with patrons regarding available services, prepares all required reports and records in a timely and accurate manner, makes referrals to Information and Assistance Specialist with clients consent, implements and carries out program policies and procedures, ensures that safety procedures are followed, turns in all service logs and mileage requests on time.
